geisha houses may stay; explanation by US Provost

YOKOHAMA, Sept. 5.-Military police of the U.S. Eighth Army will not close geisha houses in the Tokyo-Yokohama area unless they prove a menace to the health of the occupation troops.
An official Army spokesman said this did not mean that the Army condoned geisha houses. They had been the custom in Japan for centuries, and If they were conducted in such a manner that they did not interfere with the health of the Army, it was proposed to leave them alone.
The question arose when a geisha house was closed down last night by the Provost-Marshal. This was done in error, said the spokesman, and had resulted from a misunderstanding.
ここで語られている「Geisha House」なるものがどの様なものを差しているのだろう。
なにしろ9月5日の時点で横浜・東京地区の「Geisha House」というものが存在していたことになるのだし、開いているわけで、それを誤解から4日の晩に閉鎖命令処置をしたところがあったというわけだから、これはひょっとすると例のRAAを意味するのではないだろうか。
翌年、米国内で、駐留軍兵士の性病罹患率が問題となって閉鎖に追い込まれることになる。
